The Lockhart Tennis Team traveled to McFarlin Tennis Center in San Antonio, Texas to take part in the Edison Golden Bears Tennis Tournament on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday of this past week. What started of as a seemingly long weekend of tennis with more than 20 teams participating and horrible weather that halted play for several hours on Friday and Saturday, turned out to be the Lions best tournament of the year so far. The Lions tennis team managed to finish first as a team, on the back of individual first place finishes by Marshall Grimm in Boys Singles and Bethany Visage and Kirssa Hunt in Girls Doubles. Along with a semifinal finish for Michael Gonzales and Reagan Smith in Boys Doubles, and contributions from Matthew Cashe, David Cudzillo, Tannah Walker, Katherine “Scout” Mercado, and Alyah Peralez in their divisions, the Lions were successful in winning only their second all time tournament victory as a team. The win was capped off by a head to head mixed doubles match up between Lockhart and San Antonio Roosevelt High School for the first place tournament trophy. With our two seniors, Marshall Grimm and Bethany Visage playing together for the first time ever. They succeeded in defeating Roosevelt High School’s mixed doubles team 12 points to 9 in a crazy up and down super-tiebreaker to earn first place for our team, and make some Lockhart Tennis History. Congratulations to our team!!!!
